Howdy, Kevin here and today I'm reviewing the Injinji Trail Midweight Mini Crew. If you are unfamiliar with the brand, they are a sock specific company based out of California specializing in toe socks allowing freedom and natural toe splay for any shoe you wear. Engineered and cushioned for moving fast across shifting, uneven terrain, the Trail Midweight Mini-Crew provides comfort, protection and support. Snug, but not binding, the double-cuffed mini-crew height seals out grit and debris.
What I like about it:
Feel: If you haven't worn toe socks before, it may feel a little awkward at first to have fabric in between each of your toes, but after a while, it grows on you. The polyester/nylon blend fabric is also really soft.
Versatility: As someone who wears sandals with toe straps a lot during the summer time (i.e. Lunas, flip flops, Chacos etc…), toe socks in general give me a wider range of usage year-round.
Fit: At a men's 10.5/11, the size L fit me perfectly.
More toe splay: I noticed especially when I’m running, the individual toe sleeves allow me to have more feel for the shoe. I feel less restricted by my feet especially as the miles add up and fatigue settles in, there’s less likelihood of my toes cramping up.
What could be improved:
Durability: After a few weeks of casual use and less than 30 miles across different shoes walking and running, I’m beginning to see some fraying/ wear and tear near the ball and heel on both feet. There aren’t any holes yet, so hopefully they’ll get me through a full season of running.
Putting the sock on: Instead of one giant sleeve for your entire foot, it takes some patience and a little extra time to put each toe on there. In the greater scheme of things, it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s something I noticed when I’m in a rush getting out the door.
Adjustment period: Perhaps it’s my poor blood circulation or the way my toes fit with the sock, but after a while I will get a tingling sensation in my toes. It’s not a cramp, but just that my feet aren’t quite used to having fabric encapsulating each individual toe.
Who is this for?
This product is meant for anyone who lives an active lifestyle. Injinji has plenty of different options that are activity specific. And although I’ve never personally had issues with blisters (knock on wood), having individual toe sleeves will prevent salt, moisture and additional friction from propping up.
Final thoughts: Overall, I really like the socks and would recommend people to at least try a pair for themselves. I have plenty of friends who swear by them. Let me know what you think!
Cheers,
Kevin
